Capital Sound & Lighting provides live audio production and stage lighting services to corporate functions, pubs, hotels, local bands, political events, private functions, gala dinners and fundraisers in the Canberra region, Australia.

We are Canberra's wedding specialists for music and microphones during your ceremony and a quality DJ or live band for your wedding reception. We specialise in affordable production jobs from simple speech microphone hire to corporate events of up to 300 persons.

We have the experience, capability, insurance coverage, electrical safety test compliance and commercial-grade equipment necessary to deliver reliable quality production. In our business, no job is too small and every job is done safely and professionally.

Our history...

Capital Sound & Lighting was established in 2009 supplying basic PA systems to local artists performing in the Canberra and Yass Valley region at Open Mic nights. The business hired out surplus PA equipment stored by the owner left over from over twenty years in playing in live bands. Over time we reinvested the profits to upgrade equipment and constantly grow the available hire inventory every time we needed a new type of light, adaptor or audio cable.

Wedding bookings became increasingly popular with microphones for celebrants, live music and DJ services picking up rapidly in 2011. We updated our entire fleet of wireless equipment ready for the digital frequency reallocation, our new equipment proving very popular with celebrants, politicians and rural auctioneers needing wireless microphone systems. Several wedding venues were so satisfied with our services they began promoting us as their preferred supplier for live sound production and lighting at their venue.

In August 2014 Canberra's premiere vocal trio The Stilettos visited our favourite wedding venue Flint for a special dinner and live show package. Capital Sound & Lighting provided production services for the event and the result was so successful that we have been the preferred production supplier to The Stilettos ever since, travelling with the group everywhere they perform and handling all their production logistics.

In early 2015 Capital Sound & Lighting was successful in tendering for a number of large corporate events in Canberra and Sydney that required substantial increases in inventory and capabilities. As existing transport logistics reached capacity, the business invested in a new cargo van and this enabled the purchase of larger PA systems and an increase in the quantity of lighting and staging equipment that could now be brought on site.

What's new...

We now have a new High Definition Projector and huge portable projector screen for hire. The projector features Full HD 1080p at 3300 lumens and the projector screen measures 3050 x 2290mm. The screen is mounted on two tripod stands and can be assembled by one person.

We also have new Samson XP106W battery-powered wireless microphone kits idea for wedding ceremonies, celebrants, auctioneers and corporate functions suitable up to 100 persons. The unit features an iPod connection for background music and easily mounts on an included tripod stand. With up to 8 hours runtime on a single charge, the XP106W is perfect for low-budget events and is very easy to set up and use.

A look to the future...

In 2017 we are investing in portable staging solutions with a new 12 meter square portable stage to cater for growing demand in low-cost portable staging and platforms. We are also investing in a new lightweight aluminium lectern with a unique battery-powered phantom power supply for a Shure condenser microphone, allowing the lectern to be positioned anywhere without cables and with a full wireless audio send to the sound mixing console.

From July 2017 we are preparing to introduce commercial Test and Tag Services for the electrical safety testing of portable electrical appliances. Featuring the latest in single phase and three-phase test equipment, we will provide a full suite of appliance testing services to AS/NZS 3760:2010 to new and existing customers in the ACT, Riverina, Southern Tablelands and Southern Highlands districts (NSW/ACT ETT License no. 6880).
